Golden Win for Golden Wine
Even the competition of over 2100 wines from 700 wineries world wide at Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada (North America's largest international wine competition) are no match for Niagara wines.
The 2008 competition, which occurred at the Hotel Palace Royal in Quebec City, saw the fruits of Niagara's proud winemaking tradition claim a number of awards, the highest being the Pillitteri Estates Winery's triumph over the prestigious Grand Gold for it's 2006 Riesling Icewine which they backed up with the Silver medal for their 06 Vidal Icewine.
Of over 600 medals awarded, only 7 can be called the Grand Gold. "This is such a good win grabbing a Grand Gold for my 2006 Riesling Icewine. I really make my wines in a style which pleases me wholeheartedly. Making wine is such a personal way to spend your day, you throw your heart on your sleeve with every wine you make, so I'm always stoked to find out that others in the industry also share my taste", says Dr. Marc Bradshaw, Pillitteri's winemaking phenomenon.
These latest awards are abundantly special, but would have been a good bet (if you're a sporting kind of person) as they fall on the heels of 5 other medals in the past months and over 450 in total for Pillitteri's portfolio. These accolades have been earned at O.I.V. (the global regulating body for wine and wine competition) sanctioned events at some of the largest vintages competitions in the world and so further entrench Niagara as a global wine Mecca for all levels of appreciation.
Congratulations to Pillitteri Estates Winery!
